Following are some of the English-language reviews Iβve collected for the first edition, listed in alphabetical order. Most of the reviews I received were pretty darn positive, including the miraculous Publishers Weekly. I really have never seen a review this positive, ever, and Iβve always treasured it. It did sort of freeze my soul, but Iβm still working on that.
β Note I am typing these old reviews in, word for word, so that
Wikipedia will one day accept these tiny but real bits of history for what they were in the pre-computer world of the last century. The daily
New York Times book review was a bit different in feeling from the
Sunday Book Review, which had more of a fun magazine feel to it. Both sections, however, were make-it-or-break-it for a writerβs career.
I only saved two negative ones, and they werenβt negative so much as meh. One of these days Iβll get around to scanning and typing them out word for word. Soonest. π
